SaskTel High Speed WirelessTM Internet

What is SaskTel High Speed WirelessTM?

SaskTel High Speed WirelessTM is High Speed Internet primarily intended for folks in the country.

It is currently running on the Caron, Central Butte, Elbow and Beechy cell towers, and services farms and communities up to 30 km from the tower. Other towers will be coming online in the months to come. This service is primarily intended for rural customers, but is open to anyone.

This service requires direct line of sight access to the tower, no trees or buildings (or terrain) can be in the way. The required equipment package consists of an antenna, a modem, connecting cables and miscellaneous hardware.

There are three parts to the SaskTel Wireless High Speed Internet transaction.

First, Intrex sells the equipment to the client and activates the account with SaskTel. The equipment package costs $249, substantially cheaper than the $700 charged by other wireless competitors. Intrex will only accept returns on this equipment with a 40% restocking fee. It is extremely important for the customer to be absolutely certain that there is direct line of sight access to their cell tower. There are two kinds of antennas, short range (up to 10 km) or the long range (up to 30 km).

Secondly, SaskTel sells monthly access to the cell tower for the rate of $59.95/month. SaskTel additionally provides call-in tech support at 1-800-773-2121. SaskTel does not sell, install or maintain any equipment at the client's house, all such equipment is owned by the customer and is completely the responsibility of the client.

Finally, the installation at the client's house is the client's responsibility. The client can do it themselves (it's not very difficult, though it does require some skill running cable and such), they can hire someone they trust to install it, or they can hire our designated sub-contractor. Installs start at $225 and go up depending on travel time. Neither SaskTel nor Intrex is responsible for how the equipment is installed or used.

SaskTel Wireless Internet runs at 2Mbs download and 128kbps upload. This is four times faster than other services that cost the same monthly rate.

We have coverage maps here at the shop, so it is a good idea to call in and tell us your land location. The grey areas on our coverage maps tell us that good signal is available at 20 feet off of the ground. If your particular location is still in range, but is shown as not covered, it is probably because you are below line of sight elevation. You may decide to purchase a tower to put your antenna on to get line of sight, but that is your choice and investment to make. There is no guarantee provided by SaskTel or Intrex that you will be able to make it work.

Other features of the service include 10 Mb web space, 4 e-mail addresses, 5 hours of dialup per month.
